Although the colossal fantasy series by HBO ends in 2019, there are so many prequels, sequels, and spin-offs in development that we won't likely ever run out of Westeros storylines.

Here is everything we currently know about all the Game of Thrones-related projects that are in production, rumored to be in production, and are returning to the big screen.

Jon Snow sequel:

In an undeveloped spin-off series, Game of Thrones actor Kit Harington  is supposedly attached to reprise his role as Jon Snow. If the plan proceeds, it will be the first television series to the original show.

The spin-off would follow the events of the Emmy-winning show's concluding season, in which Jon Snow discovered that he was not, in fact, Ned Stark's bastard child but rather a Targaryen descendant as the child of Ned's sister Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen, only after having an affair with his aunt Daenerys Targaryen. Subsequently, after killing Daenerys (but not out of incest), Jon is sent to the Night's Watch, but is later seen leaving Castle Black on his way back to the Free Folk.

House of the Dragon:

The first prequel series, starring Naomi Watts and taking place 10,000 years before Game of Thrones, was never picked up by HBO, making House of the Dragon the only prequel series that has been formally approved. The first season's 10 episodes have all been shown, and the show was promptly renewed for a second season when the first episode debuted in August 2022.

House Of The Dragon

The Dance of the Dragons, a deadly House Targaryen civil war that occurred hundreds of years before Game of Thrones, is the subject of this prequel series. This series centers on who will follow King Viserys as head of House Targaryen and is based on Martin's 2018 novel Fire & Blood on the whole history of House Targaryen.

House of the Dragon stars:
  • Emma D'Arcy as Rhaenyra Targaryen
  • Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower
  • Paddy Considine as King Viserys I
  • Matt Smith as Prince Daemon
  • Sonoya Mizuno as Mysaria
  • Rhys Ifans as Ser Otto Hightower
  • Fabien Frankel as Ser Criston Cole
  • Steve Toussaint as Lord Corlys Velaryon (a.k.a. the Sea Snake)
  •  Eve Best as the Sea Snake's wife
  • Princess Rhaenya Velaryon (a.k.a. "The Queen That Never Was").
While GOT writer and co-executive producer Bryan Cogman originally created the premise for House of the Dragon, he left the project and was replaced as showrunner by Colony writer Ryan Condal and GOT director Miguel Sapochnik, who helmed classic episodes like "Hardhome" and "The Long Night." Martin is a co-creator of the prequel.

And Now The Season 2 of HOTD is in Production maybe we will see it in 2024.

The Sea Snake:

In March 2021, rumors surfaced that HBO was developing three new spin-off series, with Nine Voyages being the most advanced. (HBO representatives at the time refrained from commenting.)

"We wanted to avoid having two programs with numbers in the title," Martin subsequently explained on his blog, "so the working title was altered to The Sea Snake." (I'll get to that in a second.)

The greatest sailor in the history books of the Seven Kingdoms of Game of Thrones, Corlys Velaryon, often known as the Sea Snake, would be the center of this prequel. If the name is recognizable, it should: Steve Toussaint portrays the role on House of the Dragon, as was already mentioned. What responsibilities would Toussaint share between the two shows, and how much overlap may there be? Just as we keep waiting for Martin to finish writing The Winds of Winter (which he assures us he is still working on), we will have to wait to learn those answers.

Ten Thousand Ships:

According to rumors, Princess Nymeria, a founding member of House Martell who lived around 1,000 years before the events of Game of Thrones, will be the main character of this prequel. She was regarded as a true fighter and was so well-known in the realm of Game of Thrones that two characters from the original series bore her name: Arya Stark's direwolf and one of the Sand Snakes (played by Jessica Henwick).

Martin claims that the working title Ten Thousand Ships alludes to the military maneuver in which Nymeria ordered the burning of all her ships after her army had journeyed from Essos to Dorne and there had been no chance of turning back. Martin also disclosed that the project was being written by Amanda Segel, who has already submitted "a couple drafts."

The Tales of Dunk and Egg:

A series based on Martin's Tales of Dunk and Egg novels, about the legendary knight Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk) and his squire (Egg), who would one day become King Aegon V Targaryen, is supposedly also in the works at HBO. Steve Conrad directed this prequel, which takes place 90 years before Game of Thrones.

"He's determined to do a faithful adaptation of the stories, which is exactly what I want; these characters and stories are very precious to me, The first season will be an adaptation of the first novella, The Hedge Knight."
The series will not be named after the title of the novellas, however. Martin revealed the working title as A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, with The Hedge Knight also in consideration. "Contrary to what you may have read online, the show will not be called Dunk & Egg, which could be mistaken for a sitcom by viewers unfamiliar with the stories," Martin added.

Flea Bottom:

Sadly, Martin has only provided tidbits of information about what fans may be able to anticipate from the anticipated animated GOT series, starting with The Golden Empire (working title). These spin-offs are mostly shrouded in secrecy.

"I am not allowed to talk about most of what's happening, except to say that things are moving very fast, and I love love love some of the concept art I am seeing, The news leaked several months ago that one of the animated shows would be set in Yi Ti. That's true. Our working title is The Golden Empire, and we have a great young writer on that one too, and I think the art and animation is just going to be beautiful. I would tell you more if I could. I don't think I can say a word about the other animated shows. Not yet."
